Do you bill insurance?

I practice as an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. This means we can set the treatment pace based on your needs rather than insurance authorization cycles, and I maintain a smaller caseload to give each client focused attention. I can provide superbills for potential reimbursement. I'm happy to discuss cost and accessibility during our consultation.

What are Out-of-Network (OON) therapy benefits?

Out-of-network benefits allow you to work with the therapist who is the best fit for you, even if they aren't on your insurance company's specific list of providers. Under this arrangement, you pay for your session at the time of service, and I provide you with a specialized receipt called a superbill. You then submit this to your insurance company to be reimbursed for a portion of the cost—often 50% to 80%—after your annual deductible is met. This gives you more freedom to prioritize specialized care while still utilizing your insurance coverage.

To find out exactly what your plan covers, you can use the Thrizer insurance benefits calculator to get an instant estimate, or contact your insurance provider directly to verify your out-of-network mental health benefits. [Use the Thrizer insurance benefits calculator →]

What questions should I ask my insurance provider?

To avoid surprises, I recommend visiting your insurer’s website or calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking the following:

  • "Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health services?"

  • "What is my out-of-network deductible, and have I met it yet?"

  • "What is the 'allowed amount' for a 55-minute psychotherapy session (CPT code 90837) in zip code [Your Zip Code]?"

  • "What is my coinsurance percentage for those sessions?"

  • If I participate in an EMDR Intensive, will my plan reimburse for multiple hours of therapy (90837) or extended sessions (90837 + 99354) on the same day?

Reimbursement Disclaimer:

Please note that while I provide the documentation (superbills) and tools (Thrizer) to help you access your out-of-network benefits, I cannot guarantee reimbursement or coverage for any specific service. Your insurance policy is a contract between you and your provider.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept all major credit cards, HSA (Health Savings Account) cards, FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards, Zelle, checks, and cash.

  • HSA/FSA Tip: Many clients choose to use their pre-tax HSA or FSA funds to cover session fees or EMDR intensives, which can significantly reduce the overall cost of care.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hours' or 1 business day’s notice for cancellations. Appointments canceled within this window will be charged the full session fee, as that time has been reserved exclusively for you.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate:

Under the law, healthcare providers must give clients who don't have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) at (800) 368-1019.
